Stender Named Trustee of Mystic Seaport Museum

Minneapolis, MN, November 29, 2006 Stewart R. Stender, co–founder of the Minneapolis–based Stewart Lawrence Group, was elected to the Board of Trustees of Mystic Seaport – The Museum of America and the Sea. Mystic Seaport is the leading cultural institution presenting the American experience from a maritime perspective. Mr. Stender is the first Minnesota resident to be named a Trustee of the Mystic Seaport Museum and is also a Trustee of the Minneapolis Institute of Arts.

Founded in 1929 and located along the banks of the historic Mystic River in Mystic, Connecticut, Mystic Seaport houses extensive collections representing the material culture of maritime America and offers educational programs from preschool to post–graduate. The museum is situated on 46 acres encompassing an entire historic village housing over 1.4 million objects including over 500 historic watercraft, 2,000 ship models, 1,120 maritime paintings, and 1,000,000 maritime photographs.

Today, Mystic Seaport is undergoing a substantial renovation that includes new exhibit halls and reception areas. The Museum’s new 43,000 square foot, state–of–the–art Collections Research Center provides easy and convenient ways for scholars and researchers from around the world to access Mystic Seaport’s renowned archives, via the Internet and integrated databases.
