Stewart Lawrence Group project earns environmental honors

Minneapolis-based Stewart Lawrence Group announced that Brookdale Corporate Center has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR label for superior energy efficiency. After making building modifications and implementing conservation measures, the project was rated in the top 21 percent of all comparable buildings nationwide in terms of energy efficiency.
“For the past 10 years, we have owned Brookdale Corporate Center with a long-term perspective that has motivated us to make the investments necessary in order to obtain Energy Star status. These expenditures helped us to attract great tenants like Cummins Power Generation, Kidney Specialists of Minnesota, MMN Data Group, Savvy Sherpa, National American University and Visit Minneapolis North, to name a few,” said Stewart Lawrence Group partner Stewart Stender.
Brookdale Corporate Center, owned by BCC Associates LLC, an affiliate of Stewart Lawrence Group, and managed by CB Richard Ellis, consists of two, 6-story buildings constructed in 1981 and 1985 that total 228,000 square feet located at the southeast intersection of I-94/694 & Shingle Creek Parkway in Minneapolis. Specific conservation measures that contributed to obtaining the ENERGY STAR rating for the buildings included an overhead lighting retrofit in common areas and tenant spaces, a geothermal system heat exchange system, upgrades to the Building Automation System and installation of new cooling towers with premium efficiency motors.
“Earning this rating demonstrates the building owner’s commitment to making a strategic capital investment in 1980’s construction,” said Adam Fransen, project manager of sustainability programs at CB Richard Ellis, who oversaw the program implementation.
“This facility now performs as well or better than newly constructed buildings,” Ellis said.
